Lights for seeing in the dark rather than being seen <£10

Does such a thing exist? My commute involves several un-lit roads, (read as pitch black back allys) and I really could do with something to see where I'm going rather than the usual "be seen" type lights that just don't cut the mustard. The verrry top of my budget is £100 though a fraction of this would be much preferred, anyone know of anything or am I being wishful?

I use a Fenix L2D up front and it's as bright as a car headlight. Will be around £50 delivered. I think it's been replaced by the LD20 now, which is a bit brighter.

At the back, a MARS 3.

Cheers for the links, Orange71, are you using either of those two lights? How do you find them if so.

I'm off to do some reading up!

Yes I've been using the SSC ones for 2 years now (as have most of the regular East Midlands retro riders) and they have been great, I had to replace the connectors to the battery pack at one point as mounting it on my helmet meant they kept twisting, but for your money you cannot go wrong. I figured at that price if they lasted one winter it was a bargain. If you mount them on the handlbars it's possible they'll last longer. Battery pack gives you 3 hours on full beam - ample for commute or night ride. I had drivers shout out to me that my light was too bright!!

I have also just ordered the other one and it should be arriving any day now 8)

I just noticed you're in Derby, not so very far from me in Alton (of alton towers).

Be sure to post up a review I'll think I'll be going for those you linked, at £30 they're a bargain. I've also been looking at :

Over twice the price but after speaking to the seller he reckons I'd get 5-6hours at full brightness and looking at his blog they appear to be pretty much spot on. I think I'll await your review and decide from there.

Fennix TK11 is pretty bright but the TK40 is even brighter. They also work as torch when removed so dual purpose.

Leyzane (have I spelt that right) make decent lights as do Hope, Lumicycle as if you have cash to burn get some Edisions.

None of these are less than £10 though. Even if you built them yourself (not hard) they would cost more.

I had a hope vision two and found it absolutely appalling, battery life around an hour on full and no brighter than riding with a pair of mag lites, total waste of money I found those to be, failed a week after the warranty ran out too. Main reason I want cheap this time, the expensive ones were just a disappointment.
