Also, isn't there a manufacturer of modern vintage style cycling shoes (I thought I saw that they were giving some pairs away at L'Eroica Britannia this year).
William Lennon.

I saw a couple of people riding with clipless this year, no one arrested them.

... they offer no advantage over a traditional toeclip and strap?

The have the advantage that you will never pull your foot out and a max effort and that you don't get numb feet if you pull the stap up ... but the Look is a better designed because of the release mechanism ...

I wonder...did you read my original post? I've been using a pair of Look PP65s since 1986, I saw the advantages nearly 30 years ago, and seeing Hinault using them convinced me.

The irony is that sometimes I use a Campagnolo Chorus aero pedal (toeclips and straps), these pedals are later than the Looks.

Finally the quote you've used was simply in response to Ian Raleighs about"bending down"- you have to bend down with the Cinellis: hence my no advantage comment.

Yes I read your post ... there is more to clipless pedals than just avoiding the need to reach down to release your feet ...

yeah I saw a number of people with non-compliant machines; there was no enforcement of the "rules" so it really is just a matter for the individual to make their own choice. I think I'd feel uncomfortable not joining in the spirit of the event.

I have read tales of people having their numbers removed at the Italian version for non-compliance with the rules.

Ya, that's the ticket. Nice looking shoe - price doesn't seem too bad either.

of course there is, that is why I bought a pair nearly 30 years ago. Notwithstanding my tales of early adoption here's an image of the Cinelli M71s for those interested.

See why I feel the M71 is a severely compromised design with the lever, this is why the Look came to dominate the market, and rightly so.

Indeed; I don't know why they specifically allow this pedal for L'Eroica; seems only likely to cause trouble to me as they are only really suitable for track & TTs.
