In light of my recent bike meeets car, has anyone any experience of claiming against the driver, and any recommended company to turn to?

Had a big 'car/bike interface' years ago...took flipping ages to sort out....and the driver wasn't insured so had to go through MIB.
I guess you have witnesses, Police involved, names addresses etc.
Finding a solicitor should not be a problem, finding one that gets off his fat arse and does something is another case.

If you are a silver or gold member of British Cycling they sort all this out for you. I was run over in 2001 and the BC legal team sorted everything out for me. I know MTBers have mixed opinions on BC, but if you are cycling on todays roads i can not recommend joining strongly enough.

cycleclaims.co.uk

absolutely poo hot! got knocked off by a dickhead, no witnesses then he lied to the police saying i wobbled and fell! he filed a report at the local police station within 10 minutes, phoned his insurance and lawyer who both told him to deny everything, then when i phoned him to confirm details he pretty much told me to eff off! so i phoned cycleclaims and a lady called claire phoned him on my behalf and by the time she had finished with him that day he admitted fault!

got £600 damage to bike and £1200 for an "aching back!" they are no win no fee, they charge his insurance for their time and the shop you use to get replacment bits gets 90% of the awarded repair costs and cyleclaims get 10%, so that means if your awarded £1000 the shop supplies £1000 of parts etc and they get paid £900, most shops think 90% of something is better than 100% of nothing and are happy to do it for you. check their website it should have a list of dealers in your area who can help you. they should help happily because to them once it's in progress they are garenteed business. you'll need to leave the bike for a quote though and if needed they can arrange private health check and claim for personal injury aswell.

if you pm me tomorrow i have their phone details at work if your interested.

thank you mr danks of hythe, southampton, you numptyness paid for a ck headset and my spinergy wheels and paid off my credit card bill! your welcome to hit me anytime!!!

Maybe its because ive never been knocked off or involed in any other like incident on a bike, but i find this whole claiming for an "achey back" thing disgusting!

I was fairly recently invovled in a small car on car accident where a woman driving a beat up old banger clamped on in front of me, and my car contacted the back of hers (at low speed).

I pulled over, we checked damage (of which non was visible to either car) exchanged details as standard then went along my way thinking not a lot more about it.

2 months down the line i got a letter from her no win no fee solicitor instructing me that their client had suffered severe whiplash.

When i informed my insurance company The lady handling my claim said oh yes a"whiplash injury we get a lot of those these days, 8 out of 10 times its people after money for nothing, and there are actually some people who deliberately drive round in bangers slapping on the brakes and waiting for some one to hit them...it beats working for a living", She tried to claim £1200 from my insurance company who fought it and ended up bringing it down to £300, But i still lost my no claims.

This is not the USA people! if your not genuinely hurt to the point where it causes long term issues or financial losses, take it on the chin.

Its like burglars claiming when they fall down the stairs in a property they've just broken into.

hey mr jerky,

you are right about claiming for my "achey back" but just so you know this was the only thing in 32 years i have ever claimed for, ever! but i did it on the basis that he nearly killed me and tried to claim it was my fault! but i did actually have a back issue caused from it and usually wouldn't have bothered claiming but frankly, the guy was c***!

the way i looked at it was if you pay for my bike to be repaired that would have been enough but he tried to blame me for his mistake and leave me with a bill!

i sympathise with your situation, there are massive c**** outhere and unfortunately they are the ones who are breeding!

If you have had an accident and are in the right then claim. Take every penny they have. I did on two counts and the bank a/c never look so good. Teach the F**ker a lesson. But watch those legal w**kers they can be as bad as the people your taking action on
