Morning to myself for the first time in as long as I can remember.
Up early, fettle with the pub bike and switch the stock wheels for something way lighter - Christ what a difference
In the style of Mr. Wu (apologies):
Short tarmac stretch and dive into fields. Over style and into the woods. Dappled sunlight. Silence apart from birdsong and snapping twigs. Swooping singletrack. Roots - technical and plentiful. Duck under two fallen trees - must keep the speed up. Quick left then right, sudden drop. Burst through ferns and out onto road.
Back into the woods. Sudden dark and cold. Brake hard for style and then narrow bridge. Long slow climb, still more, not quite there...burning thighs, come on...made it. Best bit now - slight downhill, swinging left and right. Up and down, and down again. Over the bridge. Last climb now. Over the gate and cruise home on road.
Best ride of my life.
Back home for 10:00am and the Sunday papers - Marvellous.
I love this bike - it may be lowly in the range and not technically retro I guess (only 8 yesrs old) but it fits like an old pair of jeans - perfect, comfy.
