Laurent Fignon Replica Build up Help Required

Re:

i'm so sorry to hear about your illness, old chap - dreadful. i hope you're coping okay.

how many of these nice bikes do you have littering up your house?!

when you posted that photo of these tyres it instantly reminded of when they first came out. one young guy in the club turned up for the weekly APR with them fitted on a rather damp evening and we set off on our 20 mile gut churning, leg ripping club race.

upon coming to a farmer's yard which merged with the small B road on a tight bend, we were only too aware of how slippery it could get and lo and behold, wullie and hi michelin hi-lites bit the dust (er, dung) with lightning speed as his wheels flew from under him!!

upon returning to the club house, one senior member who was a retired school master, roared out loud in his usual commanding way:

"DON'T TELL ME - MCCANN WENT DOWN ON JOBBY CORNER!?"

Peugeot Pro 10
Peugeot PX10 DU
Colnago Buckler Low pro with Suntour Superbe Pro
Colnago master early one with Blue lattice paint work

Oh I just thought that I'd ask about McCann.
I'm not sure what to do with the collection now I have that Illness. I might start selling them off if I get sensible prices & there true value for them? but most people expect things for next to nothing or maybe let let my kids have them.
Just started to try & get the Red/White/Blue tape looking something like reasonable on the Bars of the Fignon Bike. Its a real bugger to do god knows how the mechanics did it? Unless it was a 3 colour tape to start with.

Chris

I've been trying to do The 3 colour bar tape Not very well I'm afraid What do you guys think? Scrap it & go for White or keep it?
ALSO The pump Peg on the head tube is driving me insane. I've been thinking about cutting it off or should I leave it, as that was how the Metal Matrix Frame was made.
It just looks so Amateur & Naff to me.
Please feel free to post your comments.
I've also fitted a Simplex R/Hand gear shifter & a C-Record L/Hand one which I think was what Fignon used?

Re:

I think the tape looks great as it is mate! 8)

Also, cut off that horrid little protrusion on the headtube, YUK!

Mike

Looks great, get some Benotto bar plugs though.
The three colour wrap is relatively easy.
Red from the bar end, wrapped over a Benotto plug but just TIGHT, finish with electrical tape, tight wrap of white, overlapped to start, same finish with tape, overlapped tight wrap of blue.
Or, if you are stringfellow pro wrench, you melt the tape in place with the lighter for your Gauloise!
Both work, only one may burn down your house........

Re:

(cough cough)

get some period "chromed" CINELLI bar end plugs to finish the job off - same as these only silver - like hen's teeth these days . .

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cinelli-Handl ... 2ed2ab1aee

the tape job looks really good from here and notice that you have the stem nice and low in the fork column a la fignon - great attention to detail there and full marks from this old pro!

ps delta brakes/ vintage raleigh frame/ colnago masterS/ the rolling stones. . ??

can i come and hang out at your place?!!!
