We will need pictures with mud attached , I’m out on a macretro ride this weekend, I’m taking my freshly rebuilt, cleaned and polished Zaskar. The forecast is for rain and mud, should be fun!

One night searching eBay for parts I don’t need I came across a very clean M900 RD for not stupid money and impulse buying happened. Now, which bike to put in on? While I’ve always liked the Dura Ace road unit on the Kilauea and think is a worthy part for use on any vintage MTB nothing tops M900 for my taste.
But now what will I do about the FD?? My OCD will not allow front & rear derailleurs to not match (well except with the Dura Ace setup). So next thing I knew I had an M900 FD on order paying more than I paid for the RD!
My Zaskar has M900 cantilevers and they’re the only M900 parts on it so it made sense to swap the 987s for M900s.
A while back I grabbed some Champagne/Copper cages for the XC Pro pedals, sourcing bearings was a bit tough but eventually managed it
Lastly I swapped the wheels for some nice M737/Mavic units, I have another bike that needed the Kona’s previous wheels more.
So, am I done? I think so. I’ve very happy with the current build. It’s nice to add some of the more visible M900 parts. I was surprised how much better the M900 cantilever brakes feel paired with the Dia-Compe SS-5 levers compared to the 987s and the M900 derailleurs paired with XT thumbies shifts about as good as it gets
That’s looking sweet! In my eyes the perfect build . I spotted a 19” 93 Kilauea frame in the for sale section earlier today…. I’m trying very hard to resist! .
A few updates that have taken place over the last year.
Added a bit a Campy flair. One of the reasons I always loved the Sugino XP crankset is it’s strong resemblance to the original Campy C Record crank (one of my all time favorites). So I added Campy crank fixing bolts and chainring bolts, I also threw in some old school Campy Super Record wheel skewers.
Swapped the wheels for a nice lightweight set with Mavic 230 rims, M737 hubs/8 speed cassette, alloy nipples c/w butted spokes.
M900 Brifters, Yeti grips, Syncros Ti seatpost and NOS all black Wildgrippers
