People, I may have put smaller bearings on the top and bottom...

Not sure how I missed that one. Might have to buy some of the larger bearings for the lower section

Got there in the end between us .

A quick search on ebay tells me you're probably going to struggle to get the 1/4" bearings in a cage for a headset, probably better to buy loose ones.

A quick search on Google reveals that Halfords do them. If my local branch doesn't have them available, then I will go with loose ones. That said, there seems to be some sound support for loose bearings over caged ones. Just like chickens...

I mentioned this in a separate thread, but it really is nice to have such a community of people willing to help each other out with questions like this. I haven't tinkered with bikes for years and, even back then, I never went this far with them, so it's nice to know that there are other out there who are prepared to step up when I come forward with novice questions :roll:
