Kona Explosif - "open to reasonable offers" - FB Marketplace (Bury)

There is a really old joke.. 😕 your post jogged" the little grey cells", as poirot would have said.
What's the definition of" Agony"?
A mouse sliding down a razor blade using its balls as brakes ..

Eagle and Child..is the name of one..
I don't get it.
There's usually something behind a name.
For example,
Dog Inn 🐕 usually means weird stuff going on in the dead of night in parked cars..
Saracens Head.. a classic example of early islamophobia.. when Dick the first's marauders came back basking in defeat post third crusade.
Eagle and Child..nope. must be a story though..
Lovely around there.. Lancashire generally blessed.

Well done that man ... knew you wouldn't have been able to resist. looks like you got yourself a good deal there:cool:

Note the Mike Cookson cycles sticker... the shop is still going strong... in Whitefield less than 10 miles from where you picked up the bike 😁

Fun fact... the Crypton factor assault course was/is? around the corner from Summerseat. A colleague had a bungalow there (Summerseat not the assault course) before relocating to China through work.

You know what, yesterday I was going to mention the krypton factor course.. Holcombe Moor wasn't it.. ? Military still use for cadets methinks.
I digress, the bike is Amazing.. really good. 18 inches. One inch leg clearance over top tube. All bolts are rusty.. main issue.
I'll give it a proper going over tomorrow..
I managed to pick up a scandium rocky mountain vertex disc frameset today.
Might as well open a shop. Too many bikes, I'll have to prioritise and thin out the herd..
And.. to make it seem like a proper lottery win..m700 deerhead nos mint front derailleur for £40!!!
As ice cube once said..today was a good day..didn't have to use my ak. 😆
I studied at stand college in Whitefield.. 1988-90 A levels. Near bus station.. there was a cycle shop near that if I'm remembering correctly.. as a young lad with no money.. leisure Lakes on wash lane xlr8..was drool 🤤 ocean Pacific, had surfboards as well?
Bought my first bike kona explosif 1996 leisure lakes in Tarleton.. I was working in Southport then..
The Good Old Days.

Cooksons is down the road from Stand towards Manchester, walking distance. Mike Cookson sold up to an employee when he had made enough cash, then spent his time working on his perpetual motion machine in his garage (I'm not joking). I went to school with the employee....

Who sold you the bike? I probably went to school with them too.

I bought the bike from a guy called omar Khan.. aged 49.his dad bought it from Cooksons, few years ago..?? laid in garage, then given to his granddaughter as a present.. she didn't like it. 😕 back in the garage. Then given to lucky Omar who put a rack and panniers on it.. his legs kept hitting the panniers..he didn't enjoy it either.. 😒 there you go..
Is Mike still working on his perpetual motion machine..does he look like doc brown from " back to the future" by any chance?
No one liked the bike.. which, in a nutshell, tells you where we are as a society..
Had a quick ride.. really good.
While I was chatting to the vendor, his 80 year old neighbour Brian , was struggling to get sand into his large side garden.. off Burnley Road.. low lying.
I packed the bike up. Free panniers and rack as well.
I hauled sand with Brian 15-20 minutes, he was on the wheelbarrow.. until done.
Omar does normally help, had to go to the gym.
Then set off back to Clayton-le-Moors feeling very happy with myself.
Brian was a school teacher.. I think.
went to East ward County primary school..my old primary school.. strange day.

I grew up on willow Street.. near wash lane. Lived on Hazel avenue..and crabtree Street.. it was a slum council area in 80's. Near Broad Oak High school. East Ward area. Near seven stars Inn.. just off motorway.
Working class areas..
Used to go to dickie bird estate for a laugh now an then to keep spirits up.. that was a really rough estate.. bit like brassic.
I went to Broad Oak in the first year of merger between seedfield and ashmeadow 1983.
The year thatcher became the milk snatcher..
