Kona 1996 brochure ?

Hi just purchased what I think is a 1996 Kona Kilauea but can't find any brochure for that year. Anyone got one ?

Have a look in the magazine section of the forum there is a 96 brochure in there that someone has scanned in.

Is the frame still in the original paint? 96 Kilaueas came in a nice blueish, greenish metallic colour (called Plum?), downtube decals were in the square font, top tube decals were in the island font.

Couldn't find the brouchure ? Added two photos ... decals don't sound like you have indicated or the photos ? Aparently came from Canada !

The decals are 1997, but the paint isn't either 96 or 97, unless there was a different colour for the Canadians in 97 (again!)

What is the serial number?

decals are MY97, cable routing is MY97, fork is MY97, I'd assume its just in a different colour to the catalogue bike which is quite possible as it looks relatively original.

Top tube decal looks a bit nearer the headtube than normal to me (maybe it's just me, I dunno), but whatever it is it's 97 or later...

I think I have it - in the UK, the Kilauea was offered only with P2s for 1997, but for the North American market there was also a Kilauea SE model, fitted with (guess what?) Z2s and in a colour called Plum Blue. And whatever plum blue means it was presumably different from Matte Blue (Kilauea) or they wouldn't have bothered to give it a different name. And indeed it looks as though this is the original paint and they chose it to be colour-keyed to the Z2 fork. The Kilauea was $US1,049 and the Kilauea SE was $US1,399.

So this may well be the only Kilauea SE in New Zealand!

Interestingly, the 97 Explosif was $US1,649 with an Indy SL fork - which is the better bike of the two I wonder? The more-expensive one with a hopeless fork or the less-expensive one with a lighter frame and an all-time classic fork?

i looked at that one on trademe too!!! Bought a zaskar le instead - you in Wellington as seem to remmeber that being in Porirua bro!
