Knee warmers?

I've had trouble/pain with my knees in the past and find that keeping them nice and warm does help considerably.

x2.

I find that my knees are more comfortable in 3/4 shorts or full full leggins if its below about 12/15 degs.

When it's cold I even wear knee warmers under my roubaix full-lengths.

Saves a lot of pain in my knees.

If you're fine without them, good luck to you.

My legs tend to be fine... although I have had hands, lips and jaw frozen so much I struggled to move them

I have a severe circulation disorder and don't have problems with my knees in winter.
Now dew in my beard freezing is a different matter

Yeah you know it's cold when you have been riding for a few K's and go to grab your brakes and your hands are frozen! Makes for hard braking

As has been said already your knees don't have any fat covering them to protect them from the cold so even though you don't realise it leaving them bare in cold weather isn't doing them any good, I always wear leg/knee warmers if it's less than 15 degrees but I have had knee surgery in the past which probably makes me a little paranoid about it! Most pros don't go bear legged unless it's over 20 degrees!!!

I wear em when the temp is in single digits. When it's cold I wear full length leggings and when its proper cold I wear both. All under baggy shorts obviously.

I find the biggest problem when it's really cold is with SPD's. There is a direct conduction path for the heat from the metal plate in the shoe (thats sits under the ball of your foot) out to the pedal and thus the rest of the bike. When riding in sub zero temps the pedals/bike will be pretty dam cold and thus abosorb alot of the heat from your shoes. I think you'd be hard pressed to design a better way to conduct the heat away from your feet. The warm blood traveling to your toes passes right over this plate. Thick socks and thermal insoles help a bit but I can still feel those icy cold metal plates under my feet.
