Knee warmers?

So myself and my partner have been told by 2 different women on 2 different occasions that you should be wearing knee warmers if it's below 12 degrees c?
Said something about ruining your knees in old age.

Never heard this before. I ride everyday, shorts, short sleeve top, gloves and arm warmers no matter the temp.

Can anyone confirm this for me?

I saw pictures of roadies with bandages applied to there knees to protect against the cold, not so much these days mind. I daresay if you've had problematic knees in the past you might feel it when its cold.

surely if your exercising, your body temp will raise anyway meaning it shouldnt be a problem
but, they do seem highly rated!

Can't see why your knees should get ruined if you don't wear em, but ..... I wear mine when the weathers cold they make my rides a bit more comfy, although I still wear shorts all through the winter. :) :)

Yah I thought 2 women telling me = blouses
I'd never wear them to be honest, once you get going in the morning your legs warm up quick enough.

It's cos your knees are not covered with any fat between your skin and bone and with them facing forward can get wind chill at lower temp.

I have a lot of knee problems and have been wearing specialized knee warmers in winter for some years now and work for me.

This year I will be wearing 3/4 lycra shorts with shorts over the top.

I always found hands and feet getting cold a problem. Not knees

I almost exclusively wear 3/4 length lycra underneath baggy shorts except in rare occasions when it's hot weather.
I've had trouble/pain with my knees in the past and find that keeping them nice and warm does help considerably.
