Hi all..my eldest 18 years old {19 in March} completes here apprenticship next week..she will of completed 2 years as a apprentice stylist..Her boss then tells her that she will not be kept on{floods of tears etc etc}..as business is "tight" at the moment

With jobseekers allowance..are you entitled to it only if you have deen paying NI contributions through your pay.. Lucy is only on £95 a week

Thanks

Ernie

Been a while since I was there but when I was they have a flat figure for her age and circumstances of living. Say for example for me they decided single man living at home could live on £60 a week? Think that's how it worked

Sounds like he perfect opportunity to set up as a mobile hairdresser. As noted above, plenty of grants around to help new start ups.

Russell and Graeme..thanks for the encouragement..the other added pressure..she failed her driving test in December and her retake in mid February   ..no pressure

Thanks Lads

Ouch! Im no stylist but i know there isnt many jobs in plymouth at all!

Maybe as above? Its a bit daunting i suppose but there is nothing to lose so now would be the perfect opportunity! Surely has some colleagues or college mates in a similar position?

Ernie, not wanting to make light of the situation as I'm in the same boat (Just a Spark, not a Stylist - 1st Mistake!). How about looking at OZ? Stylists get Maximum points for their occupation on the Skilled list (or they did last time I looked - quite recently)...She's Young, maybe could spread her wings a bit on a Young Person's Working Visa?...

As for the original question I belive she would get income support insted of job seekers, same thing pretty much just a way of keeping the numbers down, and before anyone starts with the thats the gov for you its been that way for years.

Your allowed JSA if you've paid tax or not, if you have paid any NI then it comes out of that first and when it runs out it becomes 'the proper dole' but nothing changes in terms of payment.

You can apply online, which they make an appointment for them to ring you up, for a 45 minute call.

You can volunteer for something like 16 hours a week while getting JSA so maybe look at going into a salon and saying i'll work for free for a while until you realise I'm to good to lose type of thing.

Theres also a scheme which if businesses take someone on from JSA on a work trial then the company gets some money for it but it only lasts 6 weeks, something else to look at.

*my missus works around this type of shizz*

That crossed my mind as well, this country is going ot be in the shit for a while, she has the world at her feet, only she is limiting what she can do with her life.
