Is my frame screwed? F8 RC200

My BB was creaking quite badly so I replaced it with a brand new m739 xt sealed unit. Then I took it out for an inspection ride only to find that it was still creaking.

I took off the drive side crank to check that the rings were tight and the tapers were clean, both were fine, but then I noticed that the BB cup was not parallel with the BB tube. I.e i'd put it in on the skew!!!!!!! It wasn't particularly difficult to fit and there wasnt any swarf as it was going in so I suspect that the old one wasn't in straight either, hence the creaking before.

The bit thats confusing me though, correct me if im wrong, is a BB cup that isn't in straight shouldn't necessarily affect the internal workings of the BB, so am I right to think that its actually the frame thats creaking as a result of the eccentric load on the BB tube?

What can I do to get the cup to go back in straight?

Hmmm,

I'd be very interested to know the answer, my F6 has had a creaking BB since I got it and it's been worrying me.

Let me know the result, good luck.

Sounds like you crossthreaded the threads in the BB.

A bike mech with a threader could try to chase the threads, but I would think twice about using the bad cups.

It its in then it is cross-threaded and will need to be re tapped
There is a bottom bracket that screws onto itself, doing away with the need for threads on your b/b shell ,should the local bike mech be unable to re-tap it
I just sold one to someone here
I think they cost about £20-£25 new ,all sizes

something like an old style mavic or fag bottom bracket that doesnt rely on the threads might be your savior. that said older pace frames always creaked as they were usually cracked somewhere..
