^Very true
Sinnerman, I apologise, I shouldn't have named names in my original post, but it was the principle occasion where I thought commentary in the BOTM nominations thread should have been cut out.
Your enthusiastic contributions to this forum are immensely valuable, your builds are fantastic, as I have always maintained. Be disappointed with me if you wish. But it is my opinion that the gushing, tear jerking, hero worship (perhaps I was out of place calling it sycophantic) that went on in that thread should be contained to the build thread. (Indeed it was for the most part already posted there.)
I respect you & your factual contributions and am in awe of the majority of your bikes. I just really grate with your, in my mind, persistent over emotional presentation of the Hardisty in the BOTM nomination thread.
I understand you may see my reasoning for this complaint to be related to my entry placing second that month, but had I known it had stood a chance I would have fixed the bike up and cleaned the blood from the handlebars before posting a new picture.
I'd like to say the best bike won, but in my mind it didn't, the Harry Quinn was my choice that month.
No hard feelings, just an opinion that commentary on the nomination threads should be kept to a minimum, with further information available in the build thread- And it doesn't look like I'm alone with that one. Otherwise it comes across as looking like a campaign.
Jerky, dont apologise, you made your point very clear.
Couple of points from me, im still trying to work out what any level of commentary on a BOTM thread has got to to with being Elitist. :?
And whether or not i agree about commentary on BOTM, im confident if you go back over all my BOTM entries, you will find either NO or very very minimal comments from me at all in ref to my Entry on any given month.
I think this in itself kinda proves my point really, that the Hardisty entry into BOTM was less about winning and MORE about paying tribute and raising awareness, of rider and a BIKE SHOP, that very little was Known about, by me and by the Majority.
Perhaps....whilst entering the Hardisty into BOTM and then commenting and expressing my emotions were not the best place to raise awareness, UNTILL this rule is changed, this will continue to happen. (Very strange how you hadnt moaned about it in the five years worth of BOTMs comps before or indeed since.... :? )
Im not the first i wont be the last, and i damn sure im not apologising for it, especially given the timing, and the reasons.
Where my BOTM entries are concerned........It isnt something that i make a habit of and are welcome to check.
I believed you called it....."Gushing, Tear-jerking, Hero worship".
I call it......." Paying my respects, having admiration, and most of all... thankful INSPIRATION".
Was Jason Mcroy a Hero....? Of course he was and should be remembered as so, and all that made it possible too.
As for your opinion on the deserved winner of BOTM, its your Vote and your choice place it where you will.
Also, if me adding the Hardisty to botm and then paying my respects on that thread made just one person aware of the story, or enticed one new member to a website i really Value, then im sorry it was worth it, whether the bloody bike won or not.
FWIW, sadly a lot of cock measuring does go on, and i suspect that some call it Elitist.
I fail to see how most of the bikes are Elite, for example i built an Orange clockwork, i tried to give my point of view and my experiences from meeting the makers when they brought this bike to market, by starting a thread about it, my build my experience, i did not think it was anything extra special about it other than the mark this BRAND AND MODEL left on the History and evolution of the UK mountain bike scene.
And for this reason, i turned MY thread into "the Clockwork Club" thread, to pull all the members together, to show there bikes and why we love them.

Camaraderie is what i hoped to achieve much as in the same way as this Hardisty Issue that you and a select few have, Not a COCK MEASURING CONTEST.
I said at the beginning you had no need to apologise, and you dont.
Its the Internet, (a faceless commumity for the most part), you dont know me, and therfore i have no malice toward you for not knowing what drives me or what motivates me.
Respect as always
Carl.
BECAUSE OF THIS THREAD, A VERY KIND MEMBER (h) AS FORWARDED ME SOME IMAGES OF JASON AT THE WORLDS......, I WILL UPLOAD THEM AS I REALLY BELIEVE THEM A WORTHY ADDITION TO THE THREAD, AND FOR ME COMPOUNDS THE LEVEL OF GENUINE CAMARADRIE FROM MEMBERS THAT LOVE THE SPORT AND RETROBIKE.
