Is BOTM too elitist??

I dream of owning a bike worthy of BOTM but I don't have the resources, although I do enjoy seeing other peoples builds. I do work hard to build bikes but I cannot do it to the level of some of the bikes entered. Saying that I love what I create and enjoy every minute of creating them.

Just my bit to retrobiking :D

Not commented here before, but been reading. It's a Bike of the Month, of course it's elitist. However, I think people should only be allowed to comment on the thread after winner is announced, not during the vote. Also, on the nomination page, only nominations should be posted, no commentary about others and no arguments.

Personally I never ever will vote for a Klein, just don't like them, don't give a fig what it cost, how much it is NOS, how right it is. I usually vote for what I think looks best, last month, I was swayed by a jaunty seat angle, but I was torn between 2, and it came down to that little thing. I still lust after the bike.

Sinnerman, sorry if I'm speaking out of turn, as I don't know you, and your builds are epic, but your baiting of Nader etc on the BOTM is boring.

Actually I think anyone commenting on the threads, and I admit I've done it too, shouldn't happen.

My bike has BOTM-level money in it. The frame has BOTM-level potential. It'll never win because i've built it for my own riding enjoyment, not for others to look at

No need to apologise to me mate, not baiting nader last month, just returning the compliment paid, the same way as i recieved it.

I dont think i have commented on his Fat entry this Month, but then that wasnt what our conversation was about.

i now make it a point to vote for the underdog.
its nice to see some amazing builds but, it gets spoilt with verbal diarrhoea.

Sorry again, didn't know the history, and didn't mean it happened all the time, just something I remembered. It happens with others, just that was the one that stuck in my mind. You've had my vote before though ;)

If nobody can comment though, I'm sure we'd all get on better :D

Some people here need to get things off their chest

If you have the patience and the funds to do things right, you aren't welcome here

You don't count in their eyes

You're obviously on to something here so let's roll with it. You've been on here just shy of 6 years. And you've made your point, across a number of threads, again and again. And again. And, indeed, again in case some hadn't understood your perspective. Some quality bikes have won BoTM since the start of 2007. I'm making no connection, particularly as quality is an personally perceived experience that cannot be empirically defined.

There are are currently just shy of 25,000 members registered with Retrobike (obviously less 6 years ago). Not all these are or were active but how many exactly haven't made you and your views welcome? Seriously, let's let facts get in the way of your story.

If you're going to engage, please bring something positive to the party. So join the community, share your knowledge, embrace the love. From a personal perspective, as someone with a lot of Bontrager knowledge, I'd be very interested in your insight on http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=233587 , either on the forum or via PM.

Calling Mr. Chance and asking him to build you a C26 with an old FRO and some carbon tubes you bought on e-bay .....

The outcome of that conversation would be very interesting.....

Isn't it sad how things have to get personal, just because it's an internet forum...

...I don't always share Carls enthusiasm for a given topic, but I always enjoy reading his threads because they are articulate and well informed.

I fully admit to having upset people on here more than once, but that is because I am Old Skool and only say on here what I would say to someones face over a pint, except face-to-face it would be patently obvious there was no malice in it.

I don't think BoTM is really Elitist as such, it's just that the people who do vote have differing criteria to my own; when I entered my Cinder Cone in the 'Red...' month I knew it wouldn't get any votes, a: because it's a Kona, and b: because it's mine!

But, I entered it because I've always liked Cinder Cones and I was pleased with how it turned out as a real 'parts-bin' build...

...and I can honestly say with hand on heart that there wasn't another bike that month that I liked as much as mine, let alone more.

If people genuinely want to change BoTH then stop f*cking whinging about it and extolling all the reasons why you won't/don't vote, and just bl**dy do so; perhaps you'll see a winner you approve of then!

Just for the record, my favourite thread for all time is WD Pro's Marin...

http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... =pro+marin

...in an X-Factor stylee, three words; A - may - zing!

Now grow up the rest of you, you've been very naughty boys! (in a Terry Jones stylee... )
