Inline qr barrel adjuster

Anyone use these?

Makes removing a v-brake wheel absolute doddle; can leave the pads adjusted to tight to rim, then all you need to do is click open the qr on this adjuster and it gives just enough to release the noodle...

Of course you can just set the brakes up with a bit of barrel out on the levers and then back the barrel off, but this is disproportionately less fiddly. Probably wouldn't have bothered if the threads in my barrel adjuster hadn't started turning to powder mind..

To be brutally honest, that seems to be a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Correctly set up Vs, cantis or road calipers shouldn't need an extra tensioner in the brake system. If they were of great benefit I'd expect to see them being used in the pro-peloton where superfast wheel changes can make a world of difference. They aren't.

If used off road surely another possible source of muck getting into cable outers?

Now I'm normally a sucker for an extra gadget, but I really can't see any benefit from those whatsoever. Happy to be proved wrong though.

Yep, fair points. And possibly only a solution needed by me!

It's a Dura ace part, quite heavy for what it is, and most reviews on CRC are from people using fatter tyres on road setups wanting a bit more give in the calipers when inserting the wheel.

If my barrel adjuster on my lever (which I don't want to part with) wasn't crumbling, and I didn't have to drop my front wheel every time I stashed my bike due to space, it wouldn't be something I'd have come to... However... Might be showing my numptiness here but.. v-brakes can be a PITA to release when setup nice and tight to the rim - the solution I was always taught is the one I posted above - set them with the barrel a few turns out, so you can wind it back in to give a few mils of slack to pop the noodle when needed.

I'd agree it's not an existential need, but this thing feels disproportionately less fiddly given the marginal practical benefit (where normal barrel is still working), especially when dropping wheels a lot.
