I already sense a burning desire to buy a frame to build up. Do you think this means I am hooked :D Thanks again!

You're doomed. I arrived here 2 1/2 years ago looking for parts to get this running:

Instead I ended up turning it into this:

Which has been followed by building these:

Wow :o Where do you put them all, how do you ever ride them all? Must admit the thought of having a "stable" of bikes appeals to me. Worry about when to ride them later :D

Most are long gone, I peaked at 6 rideable bikes but alas am down to three rideable bikes and two frames :(

hi friend.....welcome aboard.....i ran a 91 trek 8000 for four years BITD......not the same frame as the 8700,but has the same geometry......1 1/8 headset and my manitou 1 fork was a perfect match.......would love to see a pic of your new steed.....mine ended up under a lorry on the bedworth bypass!!!

cool.....great to see that again!!......thanks.....the original tange oversize fork looked great, will be one lying somewhere around for you to get your mitts on,im sure....

Just thought I would add one more post. Got to tell someone how chuffed I am with my new purchase. I had decided to keep it as made, and look for set of original forks. Collected it tonight and had a brief ride, Wow! Cannot believe how well it rides and I honestly prefer it to most sus fork bikes I have ridden. Paid £110 for it and it certain rides better than the 2009 Marin Bobcat and the Trek 4300 I rode last week, and they cost 3 times as much. GO RETRO!!!!!!!!! :D

glad to have you, and a+ on the politeness, i think everybody else has given a good explanation of the forks, but let me give you this piece of advice that im *still* learning.

frames are 1 addictive and 2 and most importantly alot more expensive than buying one with the bits, and if you want different bits, you just sell the old bits. trust me im learning this the hard way.

$350 for a full xtr mtb

on the 97 quantum pro, i stopped counting at 1,000$ usd. I dont even want to know, and i still need plenty  but yeah, other than that it will have my dream parts on it, so thats cool. but then again xtr ere my mtb drool bits.

and im a broke college student!!! i still live with my parents!! am i smoking something... well honestly probably

then again my dad gave me the same advice... and i didnt listen to him ether because i had a burning desire to do it, definately not helped by seeing all the TOP quality stuff here. makes me go wow, didnt even think of that. parts i have never seen before etc. I bought two more bikes since i joined this site!

long story short because i could ramble all day: Enjoy your stay :D & your trek, i remember my 850 fondly. passed it on to a neighbours kid for free so that they'd fix it up and he'd enjoy it.
