I do love building wheels!

...not being picky, but is you valve hole in the right place?

Structure will be fine but will make it hard to pop the track pump on

...can't really see in the photos, just going by the label

Looks like the key spoke is out by one hole

Re:

Jeez! Tried my best! Plenty of room to mount my pump and made sure it looked like the rest of my wheels! :D

Re:

It's also nice not to worry when you go out for a bumpy ride knowing you can quickly correct any buckles.

Re:

Don't leave home without a spoke key! I never do

I always start off at the valve hole, and when I start the third set - first threaded away from the hub - I twist the hub so the spokes twist away from the hole. Hope that is easy to understand

I've only every built one and found it deeply satsifying - I'm just impressed you managed to get it trued and ready to go in a couple of hours! Took me about 4 or 5 hours of fiddling over a number of nights, to try and get it sorted (although tbh my entire experience of wheel building up to that point was five minutes scanning through Sheldon Brown's website :D )

Like I said, not being picky, but as you get more proficient it will be the little things that annoy you, next will be hub branding lining up with valve hole ;)

Valve hole? You're such an amateur Gil! The rim decal half way round is the prufeshnul way!

Re:

The finer points of wheel building reminds me of the bargain wheelset I had built by Merlin a few years back, just to tide me over and keep me on the road commuting, mind. They were pretty darn quick doing the job, which meant I could get back on the road without much delay. However, the lack of attention to detail in not aligning hub logos with valve holes and rim decals and not having them all facing in the same direction still irks me from the day I received them. It's like the use of bad grammar and punctuation marks – like "grocer's apostrophes". After three months, I had to tighten spokes and get the wheel back in true myself, after a little reading up. Now, I'm biding my time and saving towards building my own choice of wheels.

Re:

Guess it's a personal thing, after 35 years of building wheels, I've seen all sorts and to be honest very few fail, it's just the little bit of OCD that I have I guess ;)

Just don't ask me to build a snowflake
