Hopes shattered? More like cracked.

This rear hub is toast isn’t it?

It’s a shame, when it went in to storage about 10 or so years ago it wasn’t cracked as I checked it after reading about Hope hubs cracking on here. Do they spontaneously crack, what causes it? I’ve taken the wheel apart now and the spokes weren’t overly tight.

Are there any parts worth harvesting or is it a paperweight?

big line isnt a crack, small thing maybe if you can feel the nitch, or see it better than i can.

Definitely worth harvesting. You may find a hub for sale without freehub etc or I'm sure as above others are looking for bits to make theirs whole.

The big one looks more like a scratch /gouge.
The smaller one very possible it's a crack but hard to tell.
I have a set of hope wheels I have been using lightly for a few years, still work perfectly well.
They crack normally because of water that has gotten inbetween the ti centre and alloy hubs causing corrosion and expansion resulting in cracks.

big one, as indicated isn't a crack.
small ones appear to have dye penetration, which suggests they were there from the start and the anodising has faded around them, which suggests they aren't cracks but more likely imperfections in the finish.

Dont look like cracks, but as mentioned hard to tell from afar.

The axles, end caps and freehubs, especially if Ti, are all savalgable.
