Hope C2 Brakes - a little advice

I thought it was only the top cap that was different too.

Open top caps are still available from hope.

Cool 8) I'll see if Hope have spare top caps then.

As far as the actual brakes go, are the O2s decent performers? I have some of the next generation Mono M4s on another bike - how do they compare?

Found these on the Hope website:

Looks like more than just the top caps :?

Yeah, in the levers, the diff is only the top caps/diapragm. In the calipers, however, there are extra springs and stuff, that return the pistons to open.

Well, had a reply form Hope. The top caps are available to order, so I'll wait and see what the brakes are like when I get them.
I may order the top caps - or ask for a refund if they appear to be borked.

The difference in inside the reservoir. In the Open system[O2] there is an alloy bar about 2mm thick, whereas the closed system[C2] there is no bar.I have no idea why its different or why the open has it and not the closed, but there it is :D
The insides of the caliper is slightly different in that the closed has a post that the spring return screws into, the open doesnt have any return springs in behind the piston,it's hollow much like modern versions

Some pics :)

I'm guessing the bar is there as the Open lever is to hold the diaphram in place - as the adjuster, etc. would do that in the Closed lever.

I'm quite interested to see what turns up now - whether it's a modified closed lever, or an open lever with the top missing. But as the seller says that the pistons on the caliper move, it must be a working set-up of some kind? :?

Hopefully all will be revealed soon!

Oh and out of interest would you be able to use 160/180 rotors with these (as this will only work out at 2.5mm difference each side) as I already have some?

In my first pic .It shows whats under the open cap,the diaphragm is held in place with the alloy ring. The cap would then screw on over the top of them both.

Well they turned up, and....................nothing is missing!!

What you can't quite make out in the photo is that someone has painted the Open 2 top caps silver, and put an old Mint Sauce sun sticker on the top of each one  making it look like it does in the photo!

So having had a quick shufti I'd say they need a bleed, some new brake pads, and they're good to go.

Also, having looked at the rotors I had the braking surface looked too narrow for the Hopes - but I managed to score some suitable ones on ebay for all of £1.20 8)
My 'Nearly as British as I can make it' build will be one step closer with these babies!

PS - how easy are they to bleed, and do you think new seals would be a good idea atthe same time?
