Your footage was fine. I was watching your bars and thinking of my hand.

And I was thinking about your hand and wondering what its like to have fingers

Re:

Good to chat with Spud at the beginning, and exchanged a hello with Mike as he passed me in the early throng. (I was on the STS Mike.)

Dave and I finished the 100, a first for me. After an early mechanical, we rode round at the back for the whole ride. A good weekend though, 50k Saturday and 100k Sunday.

The STS is looking a bit sorry for itself:

Jesus H Christ .... That looks like its modelled out of silver Plasticine

What happened?

Yeah it was good to finally catch up with yah, hope you've dropped Andy Z a PM
about Mayhem.

Re:

I can only think that the travel chips must have been wearing for a while and should have been changed before they disintegrated completely. (Lesson learned.)

I'm hopefully getting a replacement linkage and ordering some sets of travel chips from BETD.

Since building her I've done about 50-60 vigorous miles in the Surrey Hills plus 100 miles of HONC.

Once the replacements are in I shall keep a close eye.

I've messaged Andy re Mayhem, thanks for the reminder.

Footage would be ok if I could have steadied the camera. The only way I can think of to do that, would be to tighten the harness for it. That would restrict my breathing even more than it already was.
Maybe bar mount in future.

If I EVER work out how to download the bloody thing.

Mike

Gimble is your friend.

Re:

You are all embarrassing me with your speed and endurance.

That said I would not have managed the 100, I washed the DOGS yesterday and took it for a quick flick around the block and could immediately feel the ride in my legs.

Sorry I did not spot you Twister, an STS would normally catch my eye, but in the mass ride out I am always concentrating hard on not hitting or being hit by other riders.

Re:

Neil, likewise sorry to miss you and the DOGS, I have less excuse than you as absolutely everyone passed me while I faffed with my chain.

I didn't see as much retro as previous years, obviously Mike and Spud on their Endos and someone on an Orange Alu.

Don't be concerned about time or distance, I've done the 50 a few times on rigid and hardtails and in dry years they were much more wearing than the STS was this year. It's not called the HONC for nothing.

Anyway if there were a 'last in' T-shirt I'd be wearing it with the slogan 'Fat lad at the back!'

Hopefully see you next year if not before somewhere.

Re:

There was a guy on a 90's Marin with disc conversion I caught a few times, I tried to spot the model but was rather intrigued by the rear rack with cutout type mud blocker; a flat steel plate at 90 degrees to the wheel with a slot cut so that it just cleared the tyre. That and the neat disc conversion said the rider was an engineer.

I got lots of comments about the DOGS including several people who asked me if it was the original colour..... errrm, no.

I had to stop at one point because my chain had overshot the outer chain ring (must fix that). Roadie fix is to just change down to the small ring and keep pedalling, except my chain got hooked around the peg on the chainring that is there to stop the chain getting jammed between the chainring and the crank.

Just ordered some photo's from Sussex Sport, they are rather good this year.
