I've been visiting this site only for a bit over a year and a half now, but I got the impression, especially looking back at the rbotm threads, that he might have felt a bit left out as he did not seem to get that much interaction back and his rbotm entries seldom got any votes.
It can be frustrating if you spend time and energy on the community without getting that much back. I know how that can feel, but I'm not blaming the retrobike community and I myself feel that sometimes I don't participate in the conversation enough or when I do it can be needlessly in somewhat invidious manner.
I hope he's doing well.
First up. I really hope the Mod
@Jamiedyer shows compassion concerning what as just happened and let the conversation run.
We are a small community with built up friendships and of course showing concern is part of that. On the other hand personal decisions need to be respected. Thank you
@HPL for posting.
@SteelNipple - What you've posted above is interesting. I turned my back on road "stuff" by the late 90s. For me rBotM was always some sort of "pinnacle" and a throw back just looking at what might have been and learning.
It's had it's phases - at one point if you didn't enter a De Rosa, 'Nago, Pinneralo with Campag you may have just pissed in the wind to have any hope. For me a turning point came when
@Tel entered a pre-war machine, with faults, and also picked out wrenching assembly faults, but it won with a margin. Now we see a fashion is back to getting the old crusty gear back on show - which personally I enjoy more and like to see. I will say, a good rBotM is always a nice spectrum over time and sorts. Damn where are all the Lo-Pros?
Will summarise by saying that if you do enter rBotM, and you are serious about potentially winning, follow all the rules, be exact, educate others, and present your hard work well. There's so many good build threads out their and sometimes I can't understand why some people don't enter the rBotM. It's also of course a fun thing, and not entirely to be too worked up about all this old tat which anyone "normal" couldn't give a crap about. Just to put it in perspective.
I would like to think and hope the Crescent entry stands. It is a great entry with an added novelty factor
