HONC 2017

Re:

The day has dawned. Clear blue sky, and breezy.

Not long now, folks!

I'll be parked in pole position, next to the main entrance of the school. A grey Golf, should you wish to say hello!
Breakfast awaits, porridge and toast. Yum!

Off to sign on, then home for breakfast. Bloody hand doesn't work. Must have been the bottle of red that made me think it was ok last night. Bit early for that.

Home. Bailed just before the tea stop. Hand was bearable on the road but useless off it. Plus fitness a bit lacking. Not as if I can't ride around here another time. Hope you all get around safe. Perfect day for it.

Gutted.

Re:

Just got home.

Total Garmin failure so no strava, but what a hoot it was.

I got baulked on two climbs, the second one a bloke who had stopped decided he was going to get going again, and rode straight into my front wheel as I was passing.

Scary moment at the water crossing involving a young couple on cx bikes that I had seen a few times, I come whizzing down the slope, she stops with her bike right across the track and he is running back up the track, towards all the approaching riders because he does not want to get his feet wet. I flicked hard right just missing her back wheel and whipped over the (boring) bridge.

Great route though, how did you get on with the last steep climb Mike? I managed about a third of it and then just ran out of oomph.

The last descent (the first climb three years ago) was a bit hairy, but ultimately pretty good fun.

Sorry to hear you had to bail THM, punching chainrings... never good.

Pictures later.

Re:

Sorry to hear of your misfortunes Jason, at least you had a crack at it.

Good to see you and catch up, Neil and Nick.

My 100k was a 4hr 44minute affair. Finished just before 2pm, taking in some water for Camelbak, along with starting video camera adding those few minutes on.
Just been watching some of the footage. Great! Including a clear run at the water crossing! 8)
There was another ford a few miles before it on the long route. I just rode around that one.

I recognised the last few miles, as being the first few miles in 2014. In answer to your question Neil, no.

My legs were blown by then. I could have ridden it, but would have gained very little over the riders around me by doing so. One rider did it, and gained around 10mtrs!
Had plenty of food and drink by the time I came back into Winchcombe, so opened up the Jelly babies as I did the last few miles, to celebrate!

I will add videos and the couple of photos, when I get home. Videos take a bloody long time though. So do forgive me if you don't see them until around the time of Mayhem! Lol

The wind seems to be strengthening now. Thank goodness I've finished!

Sum pichures

At the start with a bashful Mike and a preoccupied Nick.

The first climb. I got baulked so waited for a gap (that was a long time coming) and took a couple of pichurs.

Re:

Nice pics mate!

Left my camera and phone in the car, once id taken a couple at the start. Had enough to lug around as it was!
The last descent wasn't too bad, just had to be careful in the muddy sections
