Hi everyone
. Just had to join tonight after Google brought me to a Dave Yates thread here!
I was seriously into mountain biking when I lived in Aberdeen in the early 90's. While I was there I had a Dave yates Diabolo built for me which got a lot of use and abuse. About 9 years ago, I sent it back to Dave to have the chainstays replaced as one was chewed right through from student bodge-abuse  . I had it resprayed in Dave Yates No. 46 Sky Blue at the same time.
I rebuilt it with mainly Deore XT with Mavic rims and Project 2 forks (old skool - yay!) and got back into cycling for a year or 2. At the time I found a set of Pace RC35s on eBay and bought them for peanuts. The stanchions were slightly bent, I needed a 1" steerer (they came with 1 1/8") and top clamp assembly and new elastomers so a quick call to Pace and a serious bit of credit card abuse and they were good as new except for decals which Pace don't have.
Anyhow, about a month ago I gave up smoking for good and am going to Delamere with a mate tomorrow and can't wait! I took her for a spin round the block tonight and remebered why I'll only EVER ride steel. She goes like a bloody whippet!!
Can't post a pic cos of the bloody rules  !
PS. I saw a Dave Yates thread on here that showed a set of Manitou forks. I used to have a set. They were the VERY FIRST suspension forks EVER and are probably worth a fortune to a collector now
