HELP! Vintage Marin MTB Bike serial number C35C40112

V357mag

Retro Newbie
I have a Vintage MARIN MTB #C35C40112 can anyone help me identifying this bike ie: year made model etc. I think it is a 1995 Pine Mountain but not sure as it does not say Pine Mountain on the bike. On the bike is Eldridge Grade, Afterburners on rear tube & Rock Star on the Forks. I was given this bike today & it looks good for restore. Picture attached. Pic attached (photobucket Link)

Looks like a 1995 Eldridge. Remember that the frame of the Pine and Eldridge was identical and there are cases of the one being painted and sold as the other by the factory.

Here's a link which may provide the answers:

The C at the beginning refers to the factory.
3 implies it's a Pine Mountain
5 is the year = 1995
C is the month

...and from here it doesn't really tie in.

Are you sure that frame number is correct?

Or has it been re-sprayed at some point in its life and may not be a Marin ??

In that thread there appear to be many variations.

Re:

Seems to be a clean cut case of a '95 eldridge grade. LX parts/hubs.

M/c 2 would be pine mountain as F1 was team, pine was next in the line so it's a Eldridge.

Errr that seems like an Eldridge grade to me

Tho it might be a Zaskar , is it ?

Re:

I double checked the frame number with a bright light & magnified the number C35C40112 is exactly what is on there?? still not sure what it is.. I am new to Marin bikes so I cant say. Thats why I need HELP... All comments are greatly appreciated.

Re:

It does have MAVIC M400 rims with Deore hubs front & rear. The only model I
found on bicyclebluebook.com with those rims was a 1995 Eldridge Grade. I know rims can
be changed but this is from a relative who said he never replaced anything but
tires when needed (didnt ride it much)

Marins at that age had 'Marin' investment-cast into the rear dropouts, so it is simple to check if it's genuine.

Re:

Don't forget, the serial formulae is only relevant in certain years. Some models got dropped or added year on year. Bear valley se and eldridge(grade) and team issue bikes wasn't available for all years.

Browse the dog-alogues and you will see what i mean.

What makes you think it's a pine mountain? Would somebody dress a bike down the range? Not impossible but unlikely.

Look for the white label below the seat tube bottle cage mountings, should read "conforms to XXXXX.blah, blah" this was a marin uk policy, should somebody repaint a bike, that sticker would not be part of a decal kit, therefore replaced. could have been removed anyway though.

Re:

I got the pine mountain from another thread on here. I think it is
actually a 1995 Eldridge Grade The second reply above has the following
& a link to the other thread.. But it did not make sense to me..
Checked & the rear dropouts do have MARIN stamped in them..

The C at the beginning refers to the factory.
3 implies it's a Pine Mountain
5 is the year = 1995
C is the month
