Help to make a 90 year old man happy!

Can anyone help me with some research. My 90 year old neighbour was a boy growing up in Hull. His Dad ran a bike shop in Hull during the 1930s and onward. My neighbour stated he built his own frames and bikes.

The bikes were called The Fisher, I have a picture of the badge which states his name WA Howes, with an address of 173 Spring Bank.

Can anyone help get a bit of history for me to give to my neighbour or point me in the right direction

Many thanks

I worked at Cliff Pratt Cycles in Hull at 84 Spring Bank in the 70's but don't remember talk of any other bike shops in the street. Mind you it's way before my time so could have been there.............

Cliff Pratt's are still there, the only bike shop in hull I trust to work on my bikes.

Hi Marc

Glad to hear it's still got a good rep :) Our rival was Ken Elleker cycles on the other side of town, a quick check on the net and I see they are still there on Chants Ave.

Are you Hull Born and bred?

Hull Thursday Road Club has a web site and wonder if the OP might have more luck there?

Hi Marc

Didn't spend much time south of the river, Kermesses up and down the seafront at Cleethorpes ............and round the Track at Scunthorpe :)

I was brought up in Hull around the Wold Road / Anlaby Road area.

Re:

Thanks for the interest in my search guys.
Shaun the Thursday Road Club? Do you have a contact name or is it a google search?
I will attach the badge picture when I can use a desktop PC
Thanks again

Hi

Hull Thursday has it's own website but I would think about contacting one of the older members........I worked at Cliff Prat with Jim Sampson who was a few years older than me but I think is a senior coach. Unless here is another Jim Sampson (or it's his son) he's listed as a Coach on the ABCC website at the top left of this page....

He might be able to point you in the right direction :)

Best of luck

Shaun
