Postage costs for a MTB suspension from US - Uk

I bought a frame from the US a few years ago and USPS was the cheapest option.
They have different tiers: we used Priority Mail International, the lowest tier. Takes the longest but was only 69$ shipping costs to Germany.
Again that was a few years ago so prices might be higher now.

Why not get him to list it on eBay with global shipping? It’s should be fairly cheap compared and you’ll know import / vat prior.

Is this the case though? I always thought there was likely to be fees (import fee, vat and handling fee) to be paid on top of the price you see on eBay?

If it’s above the limit the price includes it all. It’s also subsidised by ebay so it’s often cheaper than directly sending something.



Well unless anything has changed in the last couple of weeks.

The only worry is that eBay can sometimes ask to destroy the item - refund the buyer and also the seller.

I have a pair of forks coming from the US to the UK right now.
Bought on eBay and the seller is/was using the global shipping service - total shipping cost inc. VAT = $79.94 and there will be no fees to pay when it arrives.

By contrast, I recently bought a pair of wheels from Italy, again via eBay, but the seller didn't use the global shipping service, they chose UPS instead.
Shipping price was €70 (c.£60/$81). Fee on arrival (VAT + handling) was a further €69 (c.£60/$80).

Look carefully at the listings shipping costs - it will state whether there will be fees to pay on arrival or not.

Re- my last few (above limit) purchases from eBay.com / US .. if the seller has a business account.. all fees were shown on the listing as +20% VAT.. paying the fees at point of sale was unavoidable.

If the seller has a private account, fees are added to the listing by eBay but there is also an option to remove fees and defer.. making them payable as they hit the UK border.. but obviously these will incur any admin fees.

EBay is hit and miss. Some people want ridiculous amounts for postage.

But most of it goes through EBay’s ‘simple postage’ now (which is shit)
