Any of you guys know why this white industries crank is slightly closer to the frame ?
I have used the rings that was on the other crank ,they seemed to fit fine ,but as this crank is sat closer to the frame the front mech needs setting up ,something i am shite at

it may be that you need to get a longer bottom bracket axle length for the sugino white industries cranks. Each chainset has its own recommended axle length to provide the best chainline.

e.g the sugino one may have a 113 axle length whereas the WI requires a 118 or something( this is only a tiny difference 2.5 ish mm each side). you may be fine by just adjusting the limit screws on the front mech.

not sure if this will make the bike more susceptible to chainsuck, but might result in more damage to the stay if it did occur , given that there is now a smaller gap between chainring and chainstay

I still have the cranks I took off my 95 IFT that I bought new.
They have the "Made in Japan for White Industries" stamped on the backs, also they are not pocketed as I believe the real thing is, and are forged instead of machined.

Kind of what you've already been told I know, but I thought you might want to hear from someone with first hand knowledge.

Regards,
Mike

There are Sugino made ones which are stamped wit the WI logo, then there are sugino made ones which have a transfer/paint type decal.

The real mccoys are stamped and (scalloped dished )pocketed type thing on the back and just look and feel different .they are shinier , lighter and have much crisper edges

I have owned all three, and currently own real WI and the sugino ones that did have the transfer before i polished em off

The crank i have now fitted is White Industries for a Marin ,they are engraved White Industries on the front but stamped sugino on the backs

They seem a little closer to the frame than the wrong sugino crank that was on it ,but i have had the front mech set up now and its perfect , this bike rides so good ,goes like shite of a stick to,so glad i found one as mint as this :D
