Hi everyone, i don't have any bikes at the moment, but have two bikes being built by someone on here for me. As because i have been having no spare time to build myself lately. And with a long bad deal to do with mountain bikes i had got down about the whole thing then someone offered to help and build for me.

Anyway i am seriously over weight and need to lose weight, i have been gyms but not my cup of tea. Not into running machines etc. So when i get bikes best what am i best doing, i.e going out every night or every other?? How far am i best to ride etc.

Any help info be great.

Thanks Jon

P.S If anyone has any good diets aswell??

eat well and ride often is all a cyclist needs to know

dont forget to have fun , smile at people and dont take it all too seriously

You don't need a diet. Eat sensibly and exercise more. Do resistance work at the gym twice a week and a couple of 2 hour rides a week. You probably won't loose much weight but you will certainly get much fitter. It's all about losing the fat and building up the muscles ie. toning up.

My golden rules are 1 - Never do any exercise three days running - always rest on the third day. 2 - Never do the same exercise on two consecutive days.

like this:

Monday - 2 hour road ride after work
Tuesday - 1/2 hour gym lunchtime routine 1
Wednesday - rest
Thursday - 2 hour off-road after work
Friday - 1/2 hour gym lunchtme routine 2
Saturday - rest
Sunday - Depends on what I have planned & weather forecast, could be 2 hour session in the gym or 2 hour road ride.

Don't have gym membership any more but i need to get fit so hope to go out on bike every other night to start. May do so weights etc at home on the other nights. Play football on sundays for a hour and an half, just a group of us that play on astro pitch. I have got so slow playing that aswell now, must be over weight and getting old , 29 next month

Perry's hit the nail on the head Rojo, ride as much as you can without it becoming a chore, becuase once you lose interest you'll stop, But most of all have fun!

Would you be able to commute on your bike? Even if its only a couple of times a week this will help with you getting fit and making the most of your available time.

Since moving into London, I now ride to and from work daily. It isnt a huge distance 6-7miles a day and I didnt expect to see much benifit from it.

However on my recent bikes n beers trip to Dorset with my mates, I was astounded at how much fitter I felt whilst riding. Stamina was certainly improved.

I still need to lose some weight but hey at least my riding is benifiting.

(I tend to try improve on my daily times, whilst trying to stay out from underneath of busses and taxi's)

My diet unfortunately hasnt faired so well in the big smoke. It seems to be eating out every night, and not enough cheap nice healthy bits at home :(
