Helmet Cams - Talk to me....

Fancied a shot at some Retro MTB action but from a riders perspective.....has anyone here used these, can you recommend any, got any tips...?

There are two choices:

Either the all in one intergrated camera - quality not brilliant plus limited record time at highest quality.

Or

A seperate helmet cam that wires into an AV port on a DV cam in a backpack - excellent quality and layout about the same as above if you already have a suitable camcorder.

I don't own a camcorder sadly...what's the cost of both types, do you know? Not meaning to sound lazy but I'm doing this on a phone from France...

Nah.....just paying thru the nose for international data rates (now in Belgium) and thought its easier/cheaper if someone gives me prices

The system i've got is based on an Archos harddrive jobbie. The batteries are getting old now, but still good for 3hrs. Only problem is the sheer bulk of everything. It means using a big bag to carry it.

The Archos is Ipod size plus the powerrunner for it, the AA's power the helmetcam:

Its trial and error. I had the cam set to low down when i did the Slab at Dalbeattie, put kept the footage as evidence i'd done it! A quick ride round the car park is normally enough to check. Thats the beauty of the Archos having a screen. The smaller self contained ones can quickly be checked by your mates as you ride along, make sure its not pointing at the sky
