Hi all,

I can't see a good result from tbis situation, but I'll ask anyway.
I have a rear drop out adjustment screw seized in the frame.
Applied penetration oil a couple of time and left. Cross head and flat headed screwdrivers weren't touching it so a very gentle turn with mole grips it was. One came out fine. The other one broke off at the head
The end is just inside thread, not enough to get another adjuster in behind it. The other end where the axle sits, has about 1mm poking out. Won't budge with pointed nose pliers.
Any advice?
Thanks

Mike

Re:

Assuming you can get the correct thread Mike ; stud extractors. If not ; then try and find tiny tiny jewellery drills and a pin vice and drill out as much of the metal as possible. What's left can often be broken out. Also ; try a decent model shop as they often deal with delicate stuff like that.

We sent them to someone like Mercian BITD, they came back removed and retapped. Quite cheap if memory serves.

Hi Shaun,

Thanks for your help and link. Here's what we're dealing with

That's a short dropout, does it need an adjuster? I'd be tempted to file the inner part of that screw flat and screw the other side in to match.

Might be a bit complicated but it could work...

Using a small tool like a dremel, drill a hole and tap it out with a reverse thread to what the broken adjuster has. Don't drill all the way through. Put a screw into the bolt and make sure it has the reverse thread to match. When you tighten this bolt it should loosen the broken one out.

It might be too fiddly due to the size of the job though...

Yes I have never seen them on such short drop outs, it's on the Bianchi, sort of vertical-ish!

I was wondering about doing that myself, but didn't want to seem like a cowboy!

Re:

Ex-pro version here, came with adjuster slots, can't see a use for them on this frame.

File it off, relax & forget about it
