Headset Stack Height - Saturday Update

Re: Headset Stack Height

Hi Richard ,
Are there any local retrobikers that can help you out ?
I don't want you to end up cutting the forks too short , and they may be able to clear things up for you .
No offence meant ,

Re: Headset Stack Height

Bog standard campag record is 42mm stack height so a 40m stack height is about right for that era. The locknut you have might be tange but the cups have a line around them which the levin doesn't have iirc.

tange falcon might be a better size (and has a line around the cups) or choose another manufacturer.

Shaun,

Both the locknut and crown race are marked Levin, that does not mean the races are Levin though. This one is similar but has engraving on the bands -

If you are right, that would explain my confusion and it would be best to remeasure the steerer to get an appropriate size as opposed to all this messing about and me trying to judge height using other headsets as a comparison.

Thanks very much to everyone,

Richard

Re: Headset Stack Height

Without reading through the whole thread/s I am wondering why you do not put the fork through the headtube and measure what pokes out the top? Voila required stack height.

Re: Headset Stack Height

LOL

What exactly are you trying to suggest???? LOL

I will take the arabesque off next week and get measuring.

Re: Headset Stack Height

Remember Richard that the lock ring fits on the lower race at the fork crown next to the doorstop of the corkscrew!
