GT scrap yard find

Greengage

Retro Newbie
Called in to my local scrap yard to see if anyone had scrapped some chain (they did - 6m of 15mm chain to my delight). On my way out I spotted this sitting on a pile of scrap. Asked the owner and he said a bloke from the local university dropped 25 bikes off yesterday this being one of them. Said it was free to good home! Not sure what to do. Thinking a townie cruiser!

Interesting paint job!
Shame they didn't bother to remove the headset cups, or mask the bottom bracket threads🫣 which suggests it's not been built up since it was painted. Perhaps it was an art class project?

I thought something like that. Most bike people would know to remove the cups and mask the threads

first thing i thought of was an old Karakorum i had, i bought it used but i think it was a 1999 and it was red, so i went looking around that year model, i couldn't find one that looked like the one i had but i did find this pic which has a brazed seat clamp, which has a title on the pic of 1999 model but it's black. the clamp looks the same though.
