GT Lightning?

know what its made off, are the threads intact?
if he didnt know about the GT he sure does now, and it is very interesting that the poster and the seller are both new.

I doubt he knows it Ti, since he was only responding to a question regarding what was on the top tube end cap. Doubt he knows what 3AL/2.5V even means. I think the only reason the crank is staying on is because he doesn't have a crank puller to get it off. Probably removed the crank bolt and beat the heck out of the back of the arm with a hammer hoping to get it off. Frame has the 97 model year down tube and head tube decals. Threads on the crank aren't likely to matter because it's either a lowly STX-RC or SR Apex 450 crank anyway...most likely the buyer will upgrade the crank.

if you google 3AL 2.5 V there is an abundance of info, infact type 3a and it predicts you are looking at ti bikes

he refers to projects which would suggest some basic knowledge at least, someone disassembled the bikes so far, and put the manky crank on the GT,

i have never owned a ti bike, but i would expect it to look and feel different to steel or ally and for me to be able to tell the difference.

its that "a little knowledge thing too", i have seen people screw a bottom bracket in the wrong way and completely mash the threads in trying, i do hope its all genuine though, but it will be a nervous auction for the chancy buyer i think

The GT lightning came as a complete bike in '97 with an stx rc chainset. So its probably original.

There's definitely something a bit dodgy going on if the seller wont let potential buyers view the items.

l personally wouldn't want to pay too much for something with so little pictures, it could be bashed to bits on the non drive side.

Giles..SHAME ON YOU for openly asking the seller to break eBay protocol. You sir and the rest like you should be banned for life!!!

Don't hate the player Kevin, hate the game...
If I had £1 for every time an auction had been ended prematurely on an item I was interested in, I'd have at least enough now to buy a non-drive side Alivio crank arm. And possibly a set of matching derailleurs.

Funny how the lister and poster are both newbies???

Interesting...

Interesting.........

Thought I should clear up that I have nothing to do with the seller! I've lurked on here a long time and gained a wealth of enthusiasm and information from the site - I've just not had much to give back myself!
I do have an unhealthy ebay GT search obsession in the hope of bagging a bargain - had the seller been willing to split and post the frame it would be on it's way to me already. As it is I live in Lincolnshire and it's not worth the hassle of travelling to Manchester as it's collection only. Without posting my address Gil M could confirm that it ain't Manchester as he's sent me new decals for my slightly uncoordinated Xizang which will look much better with a bit of orange in the decals once I can be bothered to change them. If it were mine I would know it's a Lightning and would have listed it as such on ebay - and my wife would be happy to know that something is leaving the cave. :D

OK, I asked & I received.

Would love to bid on this but suspect I will be outgunned.

To the original poster, what a way to join the site! Welcome and good show for the outing!
