GT experts required (RTS content)

If it's definately 7005 then its not an RTS1, they were 6061 in '93 and beyond.

The RTS2 was 7005 in '93, but was made out of 6061 in '94 so I would guess that its a '93 RTS2?

Try contacting Madgetts and asking them if they can recall building it up.

It may be a frame-only build that they did.

Ive built up some nice bikes over the years but couldnt remember exactly was on some of them...

I cant see a bike shop that has probably built about 100000 bikes since 1993 remembering just one bike.

It would have to be something VERY special.

Hi all,

I was just reading a 1993 issue of MBA magazine and there was a big ad for the new RTS-1 for 1993 in it...

And also it's little brother, new for 1993 the GT RTS-2. Looks like yours, framewise that is. Except that it has some sort of anodised titanium color. But it also has the black CroMo rear and the bent end plate.

So my guess would also be that it's a 1993 RTS-2 then.

My GT RTS 2 was part of the first 50 shipped to Europe . the front end was in between titanium/gold colour . rear end was black . no piggy shock , and quadra on the front instead of Mag21 .

Yea, my 2 was equipped originally with Quadras, and LX everything except the XT rear mech.

Correct, but the RTS-1 that's in the ad in my MBA also doesn't have a piggyback shock. And it's not too much of a fuss to have your bike shop swap a Quadra for a MAG21 and pay extra... at least that's what I would've done too if I bought me one of these back then. Just like I did with my Stumpjumper, bought an FS model in 1992 and had everything upgraded to XT with rapid fire. Doesn't mean that when someone finds/buys my bike in 5 years that it was a one off bike or that it was some kind of prototype or summin' :-) 8)

So could very well still be an RTS-2, except for the color that's a bit off (or they just polished it, who knows). But framewise I'd say RTS-2.
