The evil mind just thinks of a spring loaded spike in the seat tube that is released when the wrong person saddles the bike without first isolating the thing because they know the thing is booby trapped.

I know people that would nick it because of that . . .

That sucks.

Sadly you just can't leave anything half decent unattended, so if you want something practical that you can leave locked up it has to be something cheap, nasty or tatty with limited thief appeal that even if it is stolen, won't break the bank or your heart.

That all depends on how posh your local thieves are, down here, free wheels are free, anything is a target.

Mind it is better than Oxford where I used to live, there the modus operandi was to not nick the bikes, but stamp on the spokes so the wheels resemble crisps. A case of they can't have it coz it's locked, but it is going to be of no use to the owner either.

I've seen a few bikes like that around Cardiff Uni

shame that, poor lad. :(

was the bike left locked/unclocked or was he stopped and had the bike taken from him?

lok out for it on ebay/adtrader/loot/gumtree and local papers

Well the insurance was a bit more hassle than I thought - they wanted to replace a lovely £400 Cube with a not so nice £265 GT!!!! My good lady got it sorted and we're being reimbursed the full amount, and they've got a like for like replacement in stock at Blazing Saddles where we got the original one..... :D :D :D

Here's a pic for you BobCatMax....

It had silver DMR V8s on it and a slightly different stem, if you see someone riding one around Worthing, shout "Harvey!" if he doesn't respond, KILL HIM!!!!!!
