Great Dane pups coming on well

Last place we lived there was a lass walked 2 adult Danes on her own.

She was only about 4ft and a pickled onion tall.

If I saw her while out with mine I used to have to do a turnabout before hers saw mine otherwise she'd be looking for an immovable object to grab.

Our 4 (not Danes, thankfully) all get on the sofas, we're lucky in that it causes no problems.
Not something I'd advise generally though..

Beautiful dog saltyman... 8)

What do the eat daily? weight wise? must have a fair appetite as they always seem to be on the go all the time.

I know someone that had one and they had to put the remote controls out of reach on top of the fridge, but even that wasn't enough when a few days after losing them they realised it's poo had buttons....

It's been ok touch wood, no barking, sleeps a hell of a lot, just the mad hour a few times a day once it wakes up!

Food wise, dry food 3 bowls a day, plus pigs ears or bones to nibble on, it's not expensive either ad we buy in bulk, think it works out £8.50 a bag that lasts about 10 to 14 days!

We feed our 4 dogs for about £12 a month..

Watch the bones, they can compact in the dogs gut and cause major problems. And cooked ones can splinter (sorry if this is preaching to the choir)
Best bones are lamb necks and ribs or chicken wings/carcasses.. when older, pigs bones can be useful (and a trotter usually lasts a while).
Avoid completely the weight bearing bones of any large ungulates completely.

i spent sunday night with friends and their 7 year old rotweiler.

it fetched me beer. i want that dog

It's been getting chicken bones from the local butcher, they were impressed with the dog and want to keep an eye on its growth, last week they gave it this.....thinks its a t Rex thigh?

its quite a sight to see something cute and fluffy bite clean thru a big bone like its made of marsmallow...the crunching makes my eyes water.....lamb bones seem to be our dogs favs

I'm not sure how much the person who sold the dog told you about danes?

Despite ther size thier stomachs rarely grow bigger than the size of a clenched fist..you can see the way they are formed towards the rear more like a greyhound with a thin rear.

Because of this the number 1 vet visit with a dane is it's stomach issues. Did the seller tell you the dog should always be fed small meals and probably morning and night..we gave ours 2 mugs of dry mix in the morning and 2 in the early evening

when growing despite the stink and smell the first 6 months we added tripe to the dry feed and it really bulks and strenghtens those baby brittle bones from a puppy..after 6 months boy were we glad to never see it again..it stinks!!

water..as a pup never leave it around ater 6 pm the pissing part is an issue with such small insides

also because of the problem renown with them for their stomachs they should always have their daily meals from a raised bowl otherwise they suffer with traped gas that causes them painful stomach issues similar to a horse within the danes it's normally called bloat.

the raised bowls are cheap and are similar to this..butyou will need the large version

apart from the relative short life span (7 years is average) the only real breed related issue is the stomach

I loved my old danes and should I ever get rid of this wife then a dane would be a welcome replacement..at least it wouldn't nag when i buy bike stuff :D

OO apart from yours salty

should anyone ever want a dane there is a great dane rescue organistaion that is always looking for a loving home for unwanted dogs(rarely pups)

oo some helpful info too

A guy local to us has a brindle Gd a la this one - but a fair bit bigger - the one below is only 10 months old:

Amazingly placid dog who is absolutely fantastic.

He gets maybe 5-7 miles of walking easily a day.

We get some funny looks if we catch him out with our two:

It is fun telling people that are two are miniature or puppy GD's
