Brilliant. Cameron says dont panic about potential fuel shortages due to feul tanker driver strikes. Then one of his ministers says people should take precautions and store a jerry can of fuel in yer garage.

Seems a bit ironic if you ask me.

BBC news had a reporter at a petrol station that cleared £3k of fuel in one hour. It seems that the government saying 'dont panic' has completely the opposite effect. Odd that...

i know! i went to tescos fuel station to fill up my tyres with air and ive got presta valves   i panicked like mad on the way past all the cars queing up then i got home and used my track pump....phew

And the fire brigade are up in arms about the recommendation to store petrol at home citing risk of fire/explosion. Good work MP's!

The plus side I am doing rather a roaring trade renting out spare bikes to colleagues

Ironic, or calculated?

So, no strike yet planned. And they've said they'll give around 7 days notice?

So tip the public off and instigate panic buying, get all the forecourts empty, then full again in the interim, with most, now, having filled up recently?

If you somehow wanted to deaden the impact of a potential strike, and put in plan some other things, maybe you'd plant the seed.

That said - never ascribe to malice what could be explained as incompetence. I'm giving them far too much credit, and damning them as Machiavellian, when in reality, they're probably repressed and misunderstood - like a bunch of teenagers, then...

Needing to fill up and facing another long drive tomorrow I had to face the long lines of traffic backing up along the road from each pump on a major route into Birmingham this afternoon.

In reality I drove straight into the forecourt to one of several empty (no cars waiting) pumps, filled up, paid and left.

Job done until tomorrow. If they wreck my holiday next week they will forfeit the next to no sympathy I may have had for them.

Wondered why people were driving so slow yesterday.
Later yesterday, went to fill up and waited while the pump clicked off and pleasantly surprised at the speed of the pump which meant i was full in double quick time. However, looking at the receipt i had been limited to 50 Litres somehow.

Today huge queus at the same place. Civil disorder, Morder no doubt...

I'm well panicing now. Going to get my stock of beans and bread

It does smack a little of the Tory's squaring up to the unions like in the Thatcher years. I'm pretty sure it has all been carefully calculated and thought through.

Cameron did say "don't panic" but he also said "it would be sensible to top up" in other words, "go and buy all the fuel you can RIGHT NOW OR YOU WILL ALL DIE!" The moron knew exactly what he was doing! It's just a shame the public are so stupid they blindly do whatever their told. :(
