...necessarily mean you end up hating all bikes!

2 months in and I still find myself heckling the the owners of older riding machines, such as the poor chap on a Diamond Back Axis that passed by yesterday - 'how much for the DB then?'...

Oaf...

The manners may have not improved but at least the enthusiasm has yet to wane.

And I still dont want to actually buy anything new.

Course it doesn't. Look at me - I've been doing this for the best part of 20 years and still love it.

thats awesome, generally a job/hobby cross over results in hatred one way or another

but im glad you still got it  :D

Do you get the obvious dodgy geezers coming in to ask the rough value "of a mates bike" they are thinking of buying - read "I've seen this bike on the street, is it worth getting the bolt cutters out and ebaying it?"

They usually have their jacket's zipped up to the collar to make them look "smart" and not like thieves. My LBS gets them all the time.

Not alot but then I've managed to cull a few outgoings.

Money wasnt the driving issue and didnt expect much. It'll take about 3 more months for expenditure to settle down. As long as you dont have too many debts, you will get less than the average Tesco worker but you'll also have a nicer job.

I'm in my 3rd job in the trade, always as a spanner monkey/sales assistant, into my 4th year in LBS's & did a year of mobile bike spannering as well as working in a factory as a general operative/fitter

I still enjoy my work, bikes is bikes to me. OK some are a lot more special than others both modern and retro.

The pay can vary from national minimum to a few quid more then that for a LBS spanner monkey

Bikebiz has a list of jobs, that might give you an idea of salary for specific jobs in the industry

Luckily my mortgage is cheap, so I can afford to live on my wages and have a bit left over to play with ;)

now you guys have really got me thinking...

Thanks for the link too, theres a position just down the road from me!
