Gios Torino Professional - the white edition

With my buddy I do every year several retro-rides. Multiple Retro Tour de Fiandre, L'Eroica etc.

My buddy has great number off quality's but restoring a bike is not one of them :mrgreen:

A few years ago I build up a low budget Legnano. Special for L'Eroica

I build this bike for less then 200 Euro's!!!! That's a bargain and the bike did three times the 205k L'Eroica!

Never a bike has a great price-fun-ratio as this Legnano!

But my buddy get's older and wan't more luxury. For normal use he owns a Gios Torino Super Record. I also build that bike for him.

But now for retro rides he also want's a Gios Torino bike.

The plan was to look for a real Gios Torino but with some other colors....................... Why? Gios Torino must be blue? Yes your right but I think this also can be a nice bike.
Budget: max 550/600 Euro for the complete bike and it must be ready for retro rides: toestraps etc.

I found this as a nice start:

Most components are ok. Looking for brake levers, saddle and pedals.
But we have the whole winter.

It was hard to remove the seatpost. Everybody how restore old bikes knows that not al bikes are build very well :evil:

To all bike stores: please use some grease when you build a bike for a customer :shock:
Not only in the moving parts but please also for mounting seatpin and stem!

After 40 minutes I came out the frame and I don't need to go to the gym today :mrgreen:

The seatpin is a SR Laprade and in the context of a low budget approach I going to reuse (recyling is a better word is this context :mrgreen: ) the pin.
Did some sanding en polish and I think it's fine:

First waterproof sand paper 400, then 600 and end up with 1200. Then copper polish. The top and mounting parts just with a firm brush.

Today I did some more cleaning.

I clean the gearbox :mrgreen:

I swapped the shifters. On the bike there where Simplex and I think the Campagnolo Record are more the right stuff.

It looks the are fine now so next is the bottom bracket and the cranks.

Must have missed that one... I'd love to be able to lavish thousands on my bikes, but it's very satisfying getting things built up for a reasonable sum.

Today no cycling................lot off rain in Holland :facepalm:

So pick up this project. Pick up? Speeding up :mrgreen:

Almost all parts where removed................... Almost :evil:
This bottom bracket almost killed me. It's so frustrating. Push, push and...................NO. Push, push and at last....................it came out. remember in Italian bikes from this period you have to turn anti clockwise to remove. But believe there was some confusion

Ok this week the final part to remove:

Started to clean the cranks and bottom bracket. In a rainy afternoon with a nice cup off whisky it's not a bad job

Searching for a outer chainwheel. The one that was on the bike is a normal Nuovo Record. Ugly chainwheels! So looking for a Super Record.

I searched for Campagnolo Nuovo Record pedals but in Holland the price kill you. They ask prices they even get higher then the shoes of my wife! So I do this little trick. MKS pedals looks almost like the Campy ones. White leather straps and steel toeclips.

Now finish my whisky Later this week remove the steering and clean the frame. Than building up can take a start.
