Ok, nothing retro here. In fact Ghisallo still produces goregeous rims. Here is a pair of them on my Ti Voss, built on Tune hubs. 1400 grams for the wheelset, unbelievable comfort. Enjoy it!

Wow - I had no idea that wooden rims were still being made. :o I like the look and can only imagine the comfort levels. Fantastic.

Having seen your pics I had to do a quick search online, interesting to see a clincher version, too (with a pressure limit of 65psi).
What is the braking like, compared to an aluminium rim?

For sure they brake better than carbon rims. Braking on alu rims is probably better, but nothing to panic about. I've got no problems, provided you use Corima cork brake pads (for carbon rims).

OK, I'm digging this thread up from the past because I just watched a 3 part Youtube video series on Cerchi Ghisallo and how he makes his wood rims.

part 1 here:

I was totally amazed. It was true old world craftsmanship. Two things crossed my mind as I watched the videos.

1. Italians make some beautiful things (cars, shoes, bikes, wheels, glass, etc etc), but they make them so damn slow they can't compete with the Germans or the Chinese.

2. Has anyone ever put these on a mountain bike?
