Can any of the Kona guys help me out please? I stuck a cheeky snipe on this on the bay..

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KONA-KILAUEA- ... 1500703346

And won it...

It's a mish mash of bits, has been repainted, with other decals stuck on in the wrong place.....I think it is a Kona, but I don't think it's a Kilauea.....or is it?
This is the serial number....the bottom of the seat tube is ovalised too....

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I didn't know where else to put it!

Soooo.....what!?!

:0)

Have I done ok? Or is it a hahana/fire mountain? Where's Anthony? :0)

Thanks for replying, by the way!!

Its a Kona for sure.

Fluted ST where it meets the BB isn't uncommon in similar aged lower end steel Konas e.g Cindercone

Anthony will be able to shed more light but my 2cents are that its probably not. I bought this a few years ago decalled as a Kilauea but after similar discussions with Anthony coupled with the frame weight we decided that it was probably a Cindercone. Same cable routing, fluted ST at BB, dropouts and rack mounts as yours.

Its not all lots though as that ere of Konas circa 1994 rode really nicely across the range.

As above I may be wrong.

That said it does have the XTR rear mech and decent shifters so .....

Regardless for a ton its seems pretty goo VFM.

Edit >> is that a dent in the TT?

All that said it looks as though under the orange is a silver and dark red over a white primer so maybe its a Kilauea after all.

Re:

Thanks for the reply... It does have a small ding in the top tube, just near the decal. The paint looks to be a light blue/green around the serial number.... But it's not old enough to be a fire mountain from that year (89?).... The all up weight, as it sits is 28lbs on the nose... Is that too heavy for a high end one? The bits on it are worth what I paid, so I'm not feeling too hard done by, it's just that I really want a Kilauea or Explosif... I sold my last Kilauea a couple of years back and miss it!

Complete build weight can be very misleading.

Strip it down and see what it weighs.

I'm back to thinking Cinder Cone now.
