I miss it

All that knob twiddling

Metal cassettes

Dolby 'B' or 'C'

Nakamichi cassette decks

Adjusting tone arms

Choosing a needle

'narrow' buttons on the FM

Just found this down you-know-where and its put a smile on face

3 heads and a rather rare remote (somebody thinks they are valuable too: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vintage-SONY-Remo ... 868wt_1165)

The stuff people throw. That is lovely, look so much nicer than a lot of modern gear.

I can imagine sitting in someone's smoky living room reclining in a faux leather arm chair, wired remote in hand, listening to some modern jazz through some Klipsch bookshelfs or those early Sennheisers with the disintegrated yellow foam earpads. 8)

Stop teasing me with your type IV's.

I still have most of a Kenwood M-95 system that I bought new in 1987/8.. the cover for the cassette player doors have broken clips and the kids picked all the foam out of the speakers (so Wifey threw them away)..

i got into a row with the 'operative' at the tip yesterday cos I tried to rescue another VCR.

it was 'theft' apparently.

Jobsworth. That's what's wrong with my sh*t country i told him.

needless to say, i didn't rescue the video. (yup, I'm still using tapes. )

I agree with you LGF, I miss it all too. Radios with dials that you can fine tune rather than have a garbled digital noise when it's not great reception.

As has been said. The digital backlash has begun. And it started in my front room. I might get a blue plaque for the house. .

Slightly off topic - my mate was rather alarmed at the fact that his local council controlled tip dont allow ANYTHING that takes batteries or has a 'lead' to be resold. It all gets broken up. Radios, freeview boxes, ANYTHING is now broken up.

Neither 'green' nor economically sound.

It will be bikes next via some daft H&S rule

The Sony pictured is 30 years old and just needs a belt replaced...

Cant do that with an iPod.
