Since then the Liberal government that was in power has been replaced with a majority Conservative government. The Prime Minister, who himself came to the Conservative party when they merged with the former Reform party (which was devoutly Christian) steadfastly refuses to bring either the same sex marriage or the pro life issue forward for referendum, stating that while they're both contrary to his personal beliefs, they're done deals and now enshrined in our Charter of Rights. There was a glitch in the wording that came to light recently about the legality of the marriages of foreigners who came here to get married, but he quickly made changes to rectify that.

I suppose you are right that gay marriage would be the death of many a relationship. Don't know how my wife would take it. I wouldn't be unhappy if the laws permitted her to have a wife though. At least I might get my socks darned at reasonable intervals.

Unfortuneatly christianity, including moderates have become an easy punchback that wouldn't be tolerated by say, Islam.

Not all christians are homophobics so it would be wrong to label them and their faith in such a way
