Garage break in

Fitted an alarm this afternoon and I'm really impressed with it

Just out of interest chap, which one did you go for?

We've got no mains power to our garage, and with the arrival of yet another bike (a modern, yes I know, and expensive one) I'm looking at some of the wireless battery powered jobbies. Anyone with any experience of these?

This one http://www.diy.com/nav/fix/electrical/s ... m-10647507

My garage has no power either and I only need to cover the rear door now having screwed the front one shut. You've got 20 seconds to punch the code in on entry and it gives you 20 seconds to get out once you arm it, after which it gives a reassuring bleep.

And it was cheaper than the lions...........

1 month in...how are you getting on with it weeman?

I'm fairly certain I'm going to go with the remote option, rather than code

Alarm is ok but sometimes even when you've pressed the right code in, it still goes off. I think the buttons are over or under sensitive, registering a double press or not atall, who knows. This could be a problem if I had to access the garage at unsociable hours but generally I don't so I can live with it.

The rest of my security is now pretty solid, wish I'd had the forsight to do it earlier, the alarm is the last line of defence really. As I already said, I can put up with the alarm's little fault but TBH I wouldn't buy that one again.

Sounds like you are one lucky fella
I was out on Friday with my neighbour whos wife has just left him and taken everything in the house ..we had a few shandys
In the morning he told me he had been broken into ,the burglars had lifted his patio door out but saw he had nothing to steal ..he slept like a baby upstairs and next door I too slept like a log.
my neighbour over the road says they had a police helicopter hovering over the house shining a spotlight on the scene ...and still we slept through it
Ironically they must have looked through my windows but seen the ground floor gutted for decorating
Oh and I have two large Airedale Terriers

Just had the ok from our landlord to fit the alarm and a deadbolt in the floor.

might have a rethink on the alarm for the time being if that's your experience/advice. ours is right niext to our house and a lot of neighbours...maybe something a little pricier :?

ta for the help though :)

I have my bike indoors, but have a bonty handlebar in my room and know how to beat the daylights out of thieves with it

Surely one from a BSO would be a lot better?

depends if you want the 'light weight' for speed and accuracy (repeated use with a successive hit rate), or 'heavy weight' for the 'one defensive hit' you are allowed by law....
