curious

thought rumpfy was a repritable retro seller etc, maybe us brits should do the same when we sell? :?

I think I can answer this, but from my own perspective, not on his behalf.

If you have a UPS (United Parcel Service) pickup, domestic shipping is easy, you just print off your label, and have the guy come to your office door and grab it to you. UPS offers international shipping but its unreasonably expensive. To keep the costs in the realm of payable, you gotta go through USPS (US Postal Service) which means car ride to the post office, customs forms, long wait in line....

Sometimes its not worth it. IMO anyways.

You could just ask me.

I go back and forth with international shipping. Almost without fail, I end up with at least one issue with international shipping. When that happens, I'm not inclined to deal with the headaches in order to make a few more bucks.

I only ship UPS tracked and insured and here's why:
I had a package go to Spain and the buyer claimed he did not receive it. He did not contact me directly...just opened up a claim with PayPal that I had not shipped this item. If I was unable to produce PROOF that I had shipped this item, they would have pulled the money from my account. Because I used UPS, I was able to provide a tracking number.
Now I know USPS is cheaper....but that is only if I use an international flat rate or surface mail. No tracking or proof of delivery. If that package gets damaged or lost...you might save a few bucks on shipping...but I lose the item and the money. If you want to use USPS and have the added features of delivery confirmation or tracking, the cost is ultimately very close to UPS. The difference here, is that with UPS, the package always stays in UPS hands through delivery. Once the package leaves the country, it is no longer in USPS hands. Some countries (not the UK) are shady and corrupt. Sorry, but I don't trust other local postal services. Hell, I hardly trust our own!

You'll also see that I have had a negative feedback left on my eBay account. I don't really care about feedback...but the buyer accused me of swindling him out of his money. He never bothered to contact me even once. I used UPS to ship and UPS International called me to say that his package was held up in customes. I sent him an email through eBay as well as through his PayPal payment receipt for his contact info so that he could spring his package from customs. I have the emails to prove attempted contact and a tracking number to prove the shipment. The chances are, he was too cheap to pay customs or the language barrier was too much of an issue.

I insure what I ship for the full value, because if it gets lost or anything happens, I'm the one who loses out. I see no reason to take it in the rear because the rest of the world is too cheap to pay customs or high international shipping fees. I don't make the shipping prices up. A lot of times I lose money on shipping. I'm not even going to get into the pathetic American dollar....

So don't slag me when you don't know the whole situation.
I'm a reasonable guy. If you really want the item, email me and we can work it out. Not shipping international cuts out some of the riff raff that I've had to deal with lately.

That being said, none of these issues have been from the UK and nearly all of my Brit dealings have been great.
(though I have been lowballed once on the OnZa's by a Brit thus far)

Good? :)

Being involved in a current US-UK shipping issue I can see Eric's point here.

My seller sent two boxes with USPS Airmail and apparently both have the same tracking number......

One box has arrived, one hasn't - it's somewhere between San Francisco and Luton. I have wheels and components but no frame to hang them from

If buying anything of value from the US I'd recommend spending a little extra on UPS.

The cost of shipping and customs no doubt sucks...but like Kev said, if you've spent that much on it in the first place...go that extra distance to cover your investment.

I know I come off rude in my eBay auctions, but again, its more a filter.

For any international people I know (or any retrobikers), just let me know its you and we'll make it happen.

Rumpfy from what I've read you didn't come off rude on the ad, you even apologized for not shipping abroad.

I think that's fair enough especially since I've lost 2 out of 4 US shipments with USPS - the ones that were lost both had tracking numbers, so I lost cash on both transactions. - Thankfully relatively small amounts, but enough to put me off stateside orders from general ebayers.
