6" is thick enough to support vehicles. cutting a hole with an auger and measuring with a stick/tape measure is the proper method. Guessing is quick+easy, but has it's disadvantages.

Then again, we race sleds in open water, so our idea of "acceptable risk" is somewhat skewed. :lol:

yeah but pawnstars has taught us boat stands for : bust out another thousand.
 
Or as my buddy is fond of saying about his Chris Craft, a hole it the water you try to fill with money.
