Another one of those spontaneous buys, standing there on its fork tips amongst the waifs and strays of a local recycling depot I was mesmerised the greener than green colour. Bought its freedom for a princely £30.

My first proper mtb was a 1993 Palisades Trail in that stunning matte grey and silver finish so I have a thing for nineties Marins. This frame looks very similar, even though it’s a later model, with the cool Afterburner rear triangle.

Stripped it as soon as I got home, an exciting Friday night for a 50+ 😂
BB and rear hub shot but otherwise not a bad selection of parts, even the fork “works” and I like the Avid brakes. But… and there’s always a but, the old favourite, stuck seatpost. I’ll take it into work (big tools ☺️) and wrestle the f out of it to start with, worst case scenario, the hacksaw blade trick.

My plans are a single speed commuter/town bike. Debating whether to go 26” or 700c, obviously a brake adapter will have to be made if I go with road wheels.

Even though it always feels wrong going into work on the weekend it was well worth it. A big vice and a little determination freed the seatpost fairly easily, also took the opportunity to straighten the rear mech tab.

Noticed that the colour is even cooler than I first thought, looks like it shifts a little depending on the angle, I imagine it’s a bit like Fat’s grellow?

Started the build today, went with 26” wheels, got some Maxxis tyres that’ll compliment the green with the big yellow logos.
Lots of rust in the BB shell but the threads are still good after a clean up 😊
