Another one of those spontaneous buys, standing there on its fork tips amongst the waifs and strays of a local recycling depot I was mesmerised the greener than green colour. Bought its freedom for a princely £30.
My first proper mtb was a 1993 Palisades Trail in that stunning matte grey and silver finish so I have a thing for nineties Marins. This frame looks very similar, even though it’s a later model, with the cool Afterburner rear triangle.
Stripped it as soon as I got home, an exciting Friday night for a 50+
BB and rear hub shot but otherwise not a bad selection of parts, even the fork “works” and I like the Avid brakes. But… and there’s always a but, the old favourite, stuck seatpost. I’ll take it into work (big tools
) and wrestle the f out of it to start with, worst case scenario, the hacksaw blade trick.
My plans are a single speed commuter/town bike. Debating whether to go 26” or 700c, obviously a brake adapter will have to be made if I go with road wheels.
