I have an inbound set of wheels coming from Europe. bought them mainly for the tyres but hoping to use the wheels on an 89/90 clockwork.

The rear has a Shimano Exage FH-HG20 hub and doesn't come with a cassette. Can anyone tell me if this model is either a freewheel or cassette? If it is a freewheel does it have the option to fit a cassette and a lockiring.

Cheers!

7spd cassette

it will look like the middle freewheel

so looking at that middle freewheel, I see it has threads inside for a lockring.

Am I right?

Have you read the text in the picture - its a Hyperglide freehub body with threads for the then defunct Uniglide, dont let them confuse you when you open the packet. <--------gawd he's a grumpy bugger this morning! Nurse!

Depending on the 7spd cassette you have, make sure you have one of these to hand, it can sit between the hub and the cassette if it feels sloppy after tightening up or it sits between the final fixed sprocket and the 7th sprocket if its the old silver/ brown cassette with the brown coloured splined lockrings

Thinking about it, unless you really really must stay 7spd, why not get in there and fit an 8spd freewheel body? They go straight in and unless the hub is 130mm, you just need a redish and some spacer jiggling

oh and wiggling

You can then go stealth 9spd (uisng old mechs) or even 10 speed (using modern mechs)

The hub is 130mm so it's perfect for the clockwork. I'll be sticking with 7 speed.

Top tip, Put you porridge in the microwave for 30 seconds.
